A friend of mine told me this story: A few years ago, he paid $1,000 for a yearling. He moved heaven and earth to have the horse ready to run when two year-old races in Maryland began (in April). Racing against the small group of Maryland two year-olds ready so soon, the horse recorded a second, then a first. He fielded offers to buy the horse. He finally sold it for $75,000.
